BCU at World Refugee Day 2015

In 2013, there was only one dance performed from Bhutanese Community in Utah. In 2014, Maruni dance by Harka Gajmer, couple of dances from Bhutanese Youth were performed.

But the World Refugee Day Celebrated on June 6, 2015 at Liberty Park, Salt Lake City, Utah was more inclusive.  Solo song by Bhutanese youth single, dance in Hindi song by six year Namita Poudel, Sangini Dance by Bhutanese Women Committee (Bhim Sapkota, Divya Acharya, Sandhaya Dulal, Parmila Dulal and Mon Maya Bajgai) from BCU, Single dance by Sarmila, duet dance by Aruna Sunar and Dikshya Magar were performed. Soccer games were also conducted where Bhutanese youth demonstrated their athletic skills. There were other dances from many refugee communities.

There were numbers of booths set up for displaying various exhibitions. There were exhibitions of arts and crafts, kid plays, Goat show by IRC, and snacks. The people had an enthusiastic funds from the remarkable event.

About 17 Bhutanese volunteer youths were mobilized under the initiation of Gyanu Dulal. The volunteers reached at the spot at 8.00 am to set furniture and other materials at the right place and keep the environment clean until the end of the program.

People associated with Refugee from Catholic Community Services, International Rescue Committee, Asian Association of Utah, DWS RSO, Counties were present. The World Refugee Day was organized by Refugee Service Office, Department of Workforce Services, SLC, Utah.

There were about 650 people had gathered to witness the event.
